This course will train SAR personnel how to egress small fix winged aircraft and three of the most common SAR rotary winged aircraft used in Alaska (ASTAR, UH-60 and R-44).
Also covered in this course will be; cold water considerations, physiological effects of cold water and hypothermia on the survivor, HEEDS and meeting your five basic needs of a survivor.
Training will consist of the following academic and practical events:
Proper brace positions, emergency exit jettisoning and cabin egress
Cold water consideration during egress
Physiological effects of Cold Water and Hypothermia on the survivor
Hazards and physiology of breathing compressed air
Survival Kit Considerations and Recommended Components
Practical exercise requires five successful egresses from the Shallow Water Egress Trainer and completion of an underwater maze

Underwater Egress training gave me the knowledge, basic experience, and confidence to exit the aircraft during such an emergency.
